Kyoto City University of Arts Gallery @KCUA will hold a collaborative exhibition, “A Blurry Stage on Horizon” by Teppei Kaneuji, Tom Woolner and Makiko Yamamoto. The three artists met each other during college, Kaneuji and Yamamoto as Kyoto City University of Arts students, and Woolner while he was on a student exchange program with the Royal College of Art. New perspectives can be acquired through experience in different cultures and it creates an opportunity to expand and press the possibility of expression and revamp the values and common sense. At the same time, the communication discrepancy and cultural differences leads to stress, prompting high response capability to deal with it. Evidently these experiences encourage aspiring art collage students to seek creative ways of expressions.

After a decade of their encounter, Kaneuji, Yamamoto and Wooler join again in Kyoto to create together a stage in the exhibition space on the theme “Value, common sense and perspective” as well as their experiences of study abroad. A variety of events and performances by guest artists and programs dedicated to local community people around the Kyoto City University of Arts Gallery @KCUA will take place on the set during the exhibition such as Family Day, workshop for elementary school students, special classes for high school students and cultural school for senior citizens. These events will be documented and displayed during the exhibition. Depending on the content of events and performances, the stage will be transformed daily by involvement of the event participants and three artists, Kaneuji, Woolner and Yamamoto .

The event, which started on a personal relationship of the three artists, unfolds as the stage set transforms and is a performative collaboration work that reconsider the framework of art and connect to new possibilities. The exhibition creates a “platform” to induce the unexpected events by acting as a device to obscure and transgress the boundaries of various domain of society. Please come join us for this wonderful opportunity.
